Tinkercad code blocks live

FREE online lessons for teachers and home learners.

This webinar series has now ended and registration is no longer available.

Every Wednesday I have been delivering live webinars to teachers, home learners, and hobbyists in collaboration with FlashForge USA.  For the past two weeks we have been learning how to code models for 3D printing using TinkerCAD code blocks.

TinkerCAD code blocks designCode blocks is a fun and easy way to create models via scratch coding. The example tutorials covered in the sessions are from the ‘coding for kids’ curriculum.

Scratch was developed by MIT Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is taught in schools around the world. It is widely recognized as the standard-bearer of introducing children to learning how to code.

Scratch Coding

TinkerCAD code blocks is built on scratch to create models. By using simple drag and drop code blocks you can create 3D models to print without having to learn CAD design. As long as you can understand the concept of X, Y and Z axis, then you can code models using code blocks.

The concept is fun and creative and draws upon children’s prior learning of code. Also it is very user friendly and easy to create accurate and visually impressive models without going through traditional CAD design methods.

using variables in code blocks

Ask me questions

During this week’s lesson, we went through how to code repeat patterns in 2D and in 3D as well as more challenging features such as using ‘variable’ code blocks. Variable code blocks allow for more efficient use of code and draw upon more advanced math concepts during building the code. As well as learning how to create models for 3D printing, there is also 3D printing theory explained e.g. how to level the printbed, what’s the difference between a raft and a brim. Every week there is a different focus and if you want something discussed in the following week, just let me know and I will aim to cover it in the lesson. Each session includes a chat box feature where you can ask questions and share ideas with other attendees as well as exclusive discount offers from our sponsors FlashForge USA.

Watch on Replay

With people attending from all over the world, the lessons are available to watch on replay if you can’t make the live session. When you sign up for the lessons, you receive an email with links to all the past lessons so you can catch up on what we have learnt previously.
This Wednesday 7th, will be the last lesson on TinkerCAD code blocks before we move onto Fusion 360 for the last 4 lessons. Sign up free below to join me.
