This lesson can be taught as a follow up to the beginners course or can be taught new to your classes. The resources will enable an in depth learning of how 3D Printers are being used in our society in the health care industry in emerging economies and advanced economies. Students will also learn how 3D Printing is changing the way products are being made by large manufacturing companies.
Topics covered include, medical use of 3D printers e.g. Bio 3d printers, 3D printed robotic hands and 3D printed dis-solvable drugs. Then in the 2nd half of the lesson learners will cover the differences between injection moulded products and 3D printed products. With these topics there are links to Youtube videos to support the understanding of key process e.g. a video demonstrating the Injection moulding process so students can see how traditional manufacturing is vastly different from additive manufacturing (3D printing).
There is also a link to how Nike is using 3D printing in the design and manufacturing process as a way of improving their efficiency of the bring products they bring to market.
This is the first lesson in a series of eight that will lead to an assessment at the end of the course.
