In this lesson your students will learn how to model a smart phone case such as an iphone. The technique used in the lesson can be adapted to any brand of smart phone e.g. Samsung, Sony or HTC etc. All the students will need to do is google the dimensions of their brand of smart phone e.g. the length, width and thickness and then they can model and 3D print their own case.
The process involves inserting an image of their phone and then calibrating the image to the correct dimensions of the physical phone. Then once there is a scaled image, students will learn how to sketch and model the case, then adding a customisation on the back.
Each stage comes with video tutorials covering all aspects of the lesson, allowing for learners to work at their own pace. Included are example STL files of cases to 3D print before the lesson so students can analyse them and the powerpoint comes with step by step modelling instructions.
As with all the lessons, everything is ready to teach and includes a homework task that reflects on the lesson objectives and along with a research task about ‘design thinking’.
