This lesson teaches in detail the differences between SLA and DLP  3D printers. Every slide is accompanied with graphical images to illustrate the concepts being discussed. Topics covered include, different types of UV light sources such as laser beams and UV projectors and how this effects the print quality of resin 3D printed parts. The advantages and disadvantages of each type of process along with how resin materials are supplied.

Resolution definition is also covered through the concept of 3D pixels known as voxel definition, along with the study of resin materials and their environmental impact. In the latter parts of the lesson is the study of the ‘life cycle assessment of a 3D printed part’ and how using thermoset resins effects the carbon footprint of the product.

This lesson encourages students to consider the wider impact of using resin 3D printers from an environmental and sustainability point of view.
